IASAS Season One tournaments have concluded. Congratulations to all student athletes, coaches and parents for making Season One sports a success. We hope you enjoyed watching some of the events live and we want to thank all who made the live streaming possible. We have come to take the streaming of live events for granted, but keep in mind it is a huge undertaking with many people volunteering to make the events come to you live. Thanks also to the folks who create websites where you find results and images from the tournaments. Thank you to the students, IT folks and teachers who bring the IASAS experience onto your screens. Last but not least, thank you to the Athletic Directors and their staffs who make the tournaments a success.

Season 1 saw JIS hosting both X-Country and Volleyball while TAS hosted soccer. The heavy rains from a typhoon the week before the tournament in Taipei forced the entire tournament to be played on the TAS pitch instead of running games on two sites. This made for long days for the teams but they were good days. The Volleyball tournament was dedicated to a former JIS teacher and coach, Mrs. Joy Armstrong, who passed away recently. Mrs. Armstrong was the coach of the girls’ teams from 1978 – 1988 and again from 1992 – 1998, with a only a couple of years off in those periods during which she taught in Kenya. She and her husband Rob were involved with the start of the IASAS program in 1982 and it was fitting that Mrs. Armstrong was remembered for all her time spent helping students and athletes over the years. Both X-Country races started and finished on the resurfaced track at JIS under bright sunny skies. The races went off without a hitch and were won in very fast times. Summaries of the season one sports are below.

We had a fantastic race this morning. The weather was perfect (not too hot). We kicked off with a new system today. All of the runners had timing chips which seemed to work really well. I was really impressed with the great atmosphere created by the athletes and coaches this morning. A special thanks to the crew that set up the race (Sundara, Letch and Dominic, Scott Muir and Pete Casey), all the officials, the marshals, coaches and don’t forget the athletes who slogged up those hills.
Please check out the Boys and Girls results here.

2011 is upon the IASAS schools and this year marks a special landmark for our organization. This year is the 30th year of IASAS!
Over the years there have been thousands of athletes and artists, delegates and performers participate in IASAS events. In many cases competition has highlighted the events themselves, but camaraderie and bonding have stood the test of time. This site and our Facebook fan page have proven that the IASAS family has remained strong for the first 30 years and continues to grow stronger into our future.
To commemorate the special anniversary, Singapore American School will be hosting the first season sports of Cross Country, Soccer, and Volleyball all together – just like in the old days! From October 20th to 22nd, it will be a celebration of IASAS togetherness in the true spirit of competition and sportsmanship.
Follow all the results and action at the main page: http://iasas.sasclubs.com

Of course, you can also come back to IASAS.asia to connect to all that’s happening!
Happy 3oth, IASAS. Looking as great as ever!
